In a traditional massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG), a guild is a group of players who are working toward a common goal in a game. Guilds can be large or small, and they may consist of players who know each other outside the game or players from many different geographic areas. These groups band together to defeat challenges in the game that require several players to complete and to socialize and connect with other players.
In the web3 world, a guild can be a DAO. The Play-to-Earn Yield Guild Games (YGG) received $4.6M investment led by venture capital (VC) firm Andreessen Horowitz (a16z). YGG lends players the money to buy the Axies and other digital assets to start the game so they can start earning money. YGG is an ERC-20 token that gives holders the right to participate in the governance of the YGG DAO.
