Overview

Community members such as Fuzz.fi, Easy Node, and FarmersOnly have voiced out that they are interested in helping take on some of the incoming requests for RPC nodes for the Harmony community. Let’s bring this to the next level by formalizing this further, organizing this as a DAO.

The Vision

The end goal is to have a group of independent thinkers, specifically managing the direction of the JSON RPC services which interacts directly with the Harmony blockchain. Help educate, direct and plan for future expansion of these services to existing web, mobile and future metaverse application builders, to be able to interact with the chain, via RPC interactions, since it’s a service to help builders and creatives bridge from web2 development to web3.

DAO mandates

• To onboard and incentivize Harmony node operators to run non-malicious RPC nodes; measure and reward for secure, performant and resilient operators within a trusted endpoint
• To research and improve upon RPC node operation best-practices to help manage traffic at scale while fending off malicious activities
• To collaborate with the Harmony Foundation’s core team as well as major node-runner ecosystems with the best practices of RPC node operations

How Would This Work?

The Harmony Foundation will fund $1.2 million to the initial 2-years of the DAO’s operations. While the DAO sets up its governance mechanisms, rolls out the mandates and gains traction with the community, we trust that the DAO will find a sustainable model going forward beyond its initial 2-years of runway.

Success Metrics

The measurement of success would have to be a quarterly review of the DAO’s progress based on its mandates using Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Results-driven and Time-bound (SMART) goals based on the mandates, worked upon by the DAO governors and agreed upon by the Foundation within 2-weeks of the initial formation, every calendar quarter.
